"GOLDEN JUBILEE REUNION" FOR THE CLASS OF 1962!!

Plans are underway for the Golden Jubilee Reunion for the SJT Alumni Class of 1962. Celebration will begin with the Eucharistic Celebration/Mass at eight o'clock in the morning at our beloved St. Jude Thaddeus Parish in Sinajana, Guam. All are invited to attend!

We encourage everyone to participate as volunteers in various committees and/or contribute suggestions, ideas and any feedback to bring this event to a most spiritual, memorable and happy gathering.

Reunion Committees!

A core group of alumni from the Class of '62 have begun the groundwork for this year's reunion. Father Gus has agreed to celebrate with us on Sunday, July 17th beginning with the 8:30 AM Eucharistic Celebration at St. Jude Church in Sinajana. A call for help to all SJT Alumni and friends is necessary to bring everyone together for another spiritual, nostalgic and memorable reunion!

Please review the following list of committees needed for the successful outcome of our Fourth Annual Alumni Reunion and mark the committee and the position of your choice.

Publicity: responsible for advertising news of the event in the PDN, Pacific Voice, radio broadcasts/announcements, church bulletins (Catholic and non-Catholic), etc., _____Coordinator _____ Member
Fund-Raising: responsible for soliciting donations from local businesses, private individuals, local philanthropists; collecting and organizing items to sell, auction or raffle off at the reunion. _____Coordinator _____ Member

Huge Attendance at the Memorial Mass for Sister Marda and Departed Franciscans

You'll be very proud to know that the SJT Alumni took great pride and effort to memorialize each of our beloved Franciscan nuns and priests at Mass this past Sunday. The alumni each wore navy-blue ribbons (SJT uniform skirt/trouser color) provided by Rosalita Santos, who currently teaches at Bishop Baumgartner Memorial Middle School. We held a Commemorative Candle Procession (29 total), which I created and personalized with the photo of each clergy, that was carried to the altar by the alumni, as Sister Gloria read each name. We formed an SJT choir, enlisted SJT musicians, like jazz guitarist, Carlos Laguana and keyboard artist and vocalist, Ray Miranda for the instrumental accompaniment. Robert Hoffman, Vice-Mayor of Sinajana Village directed the choir and the musicians. The SJT alumni were at the forefront of the Eucharistic Celebration, especially in Father Gus Gumataotao a '68 alumnus, who celebrated Mass! The church was filled to the loft with our families, friends and grateful parishioners, who came to show their love and gratitude to the individual Franciscan nuns and priests.

I've already posted photos (with mouseovers) on the web www.sjtalumniofguam.com in the HOME page of the Memorial Mass. The event was a huge success due to the collaborative efforts of the alumni! Sister Gloria was extremely instrumental in securing the date for the event, and contacting me to assist in organizing the various alumni groups. Everyone was lovingly supportive and generously provided the light refreshments afterward. And what an impressive array of delicious Chamorro pastries, salads, soups, and sandwiches was served!

Mr. Romeo Whang, a Chancery Councilman with the Agana Archdiocese, and a very close friend of Sister Marda was in attendance. He cried through most of the Mass, and had a difficult time composing himself when he'd look at her photo, or when he spoke of her. Nuns from four communities honored us with their presence, also (their names and photos on the HOME page of our web).

Sister Gloria honored us by eulogizing Sister Marda and spoke of the great love Sr. Marda had for Guam and especially for the people of Sinajana. Maggie Tenorio eulogized Sister Marda with her personal lifelong experiences that most of us wished we'd had with Sister. Sister Marda and all the nuns and priests, whom we remembered at this Memorial Mass, will remain in our hearts, and always in our prayers!

MEMORIAL MASS ON SUNDAY, JAN. 17TH AT 10:30 AM FOR ALL DECEASED FRANCISCAN SISTERS AND FRANCISCAN/CAPUCHINS WHO SERVED IN SINAJANA, GUAM

We want to show our appreciation to the FSPA faculty and nurses, as well as, the Franciscan Capuchin clergy who served our beloved village of Sinajana! For most of us, whose parents are no longer with us, it is immensely incumbent on us to memorialize them and to ensure that a fitting memorial is erected for their sacrifices, dedication and enduring love for our St. Jude Parish, SJT School, the Catholic Medical Center and village!

We're organizing a memorial Mass for Sister Marda, who passed away Dec. 16th in La Crosse, WI, and we'll be including ALL deceased Franciscan nuns (teachers and nurses) and priests who served at SJT from 1955 through 1970, and those who served at Bishop Baumgartner through 1986 at Mass on the 10:30 AM on Jan. 17th. We're getting a group (choir) together comprised of SJT alumni. We will have muscians like Carlos Laguana on the guitar, Paul Tenorio Tuncap on the keyboard, Robert Hoffman, choir director (Vice-Mayor of Sinajana) and a few other alumni. The rest of us will join the congregation, or just lip sync!

It would be glorious memorial to assemble as many SJT alumni as there are on the island at this Eucharistic Celebration.

Hafa Adai and Buenas. Let me introduce myself; my name is Victor Aquiningoc Cruz from Block 2 lot 12 Johnston Street (old Sinajana before Urban Renewal). The youngest son of Anan Manuet Cabesa/Terao. I used to reside across the Salas Convenient store (Ton Galo and Tan Sabet Salas). My parents other siblings are Fred, Frank, John (Sinajana Rockers, center), Anthony (Dobie), Maria and Lourdes. I am married of 33 years to Reme Fejeran (Familian Undo) Bigtas of Asan. I was class of 1970, Sister Marda, homeroom teacher, then Father Arnold.

CLASS OF '62 ALUPANG BEACH FAMILY PICNIC

We had a wonderful time at the picnic. There were lots of food to take home! The dukeduke race and tug-o-war were most popular games! The kids had a great time. The adults found trees/tents to sit under.....Hahahaha.....Julie and Virgie joined in on the tug...We started out with one "BIG" kid, all the esteem mustered and puffed up chest.... against ALL the little kids.....the LITTLE KIDS yanked him across the finish line more than 5 feet (eating sand)...Hahahaha...then 2 BIG FELLOWS joined together, this time ALL the little kids and GIRLS got together,....they too yanked these BIG BOYS across the finish line dragging them thru the sand....there was so much cheering and laughter. I'm painting this picture so you all could experience the event...Heehee... Next...

ALL GIRLS vs. ALL GUYS ....the Girls took them for a loop!.....another WIN!....by this time GIRLS/LADIES (including Julie and Virgie) ...vs. GUYS/BOYS...AND.....wammo!...another win for the LADIES!...that's two..right?..again, the boys asked for another "duel"....well..of course the Girls did not have the stamina after several wins...so they gave the boys a run for their $$$$, puffing, grounding into sand, slipping, sliding, holding and pulling with the might of steel, some so low and knee deep in sand...then... let go!...the boys won...hahahaha.....(really, the boys won!)

Where was I you say????......Coordinating of course!.....and cheerleading.....someone had to start the games and watch the ribbon at the finish line.....GREAT FUN FOR THE KIDS!

Where were the adults????........now, now......you're not listening........they are under trees and tents....out of the sun, siesta, fiesta, dancing!....hahaha.

The dukduk race was a great hit. I brought water spray bottles and water guns to spray the buggers to keep them moving (they like rain)...cut and painted 2 8x4 plywood in a 1/2 circle, put them together and started the race from the center....got the dukduk from Paulino Beach in Inarajan, kept them alive for 4 days on coconut......wrote chamoru names on their backs leaving some for the kids to name them themselves....we had prizes for 3 x's winners....our dukduk names include (but not limited to):

Gutus....Ipe'.....Lasas....Pa'nak....Figan...Toro...Pika...Amot...Piku...Su'on...Biha...Bihu...Guse'...Sufa'....Ma'ok...Da'ok...Tuba...

OK...wasn't that FUN?....Of course I returned the dukedukes back home to Inarajan...environmentalist that I am! Hopefully, their names would stay on and we will see them again next year....Great News!...not one died!
